there’s no such thing as bad press

mooninite flippin the bird

By now, everyone’s familiar with the above picture. It was all a hoax.
Guerilla marketing. An overaggressive form of poster sniping.

Magazines like Adbusters and several of today’s cutting edge firms now
rely on guerilla marketing to cut through the mass of corporate ads now
fighting for a piece of our consciousness. There really is no such thing
as bad publicity, think of all the pop stars lately who “outraged” the morality
of decent people by not wearing underwear in public, it helped advance
their careers, and bring more lucrative endorsement contracts to cash in on
their infamy. Think about this,an ex NFL linebacker who murdered his wife
and her boyfriend, and was offered a mega dollar deal to write a book about
how he did it. When the public outcry became too great, the book
was shelved, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be another more
appropriate time to cash in

The fact that the mooninite pictured above is giving us all the finger is,
however, food for thought. The message in today’s media is, as always,
” TERROR. WE ARE UNDER ATTACK. EVERYBODY KEEP CONSUMING,
ABOVE ALL WE MUST SHOW OUR FREEDOM BY SPENDING HUGE AMOUNTS
OF MONEY ON USELESS PRODUCTS “.

Nothing, it seems must interfere with our desire to get whatever we
think we want. For whatever reason, we have become
soulless human molochs getting flipped off by a cartoon
